Police say 3 Pulaski County Sheriff’s deputies taken to hospital after attack, patrol vehicle stolen

According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, two Pulaski County Sheriff's deputies were attacked and a patrol vehicle stolen.

PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - On Saturday, Dec. 8, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Pulaski County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a residence in the Crystal Hill area in order to make contact with a person, who was continually contacting 911.

Deputies made contact with this person, later identified as Jerry York. Deputies instructed York to stop calling 911 if he did not have an emergency and he agreed.

However, soon after deputies left the residence, York began calling 911 again. Deputies, once again, responded to the residence and learned York had left in his personal vehicle.

Deputies were familiar with York’s vehicle and soon located it in the area. They conducted a traffic stop and made contact with York.

He became very aggressive and began to fight with both deputies. During the altercation, both deputies were injured and York managed to gain control of a Pulaski County Sheriff's Office SUV.

York fled the scene and was intercepted by other responding deputies.

He then fled from these deputies on MacArthur Drive, initially heading North and then turning back South, toward the City of North Little Rock.

Pulaski County deputies managed to use spike strips and deflated one of the front tires on the vehicle. York continued South on MacArthur and approached the intersection of MacArthur Drive and Military Road, where Pulaski County deputies were waiting with more spike strips.

Before York made contact with the deputies, he cut through the McDonalds parking lot and proceeded East on Military Road, with Pulaski County deputies still in pursuit.

As York approached the main entrance gate to Camp Robinson, he performed a U-Turn, heading directly toward the pursuing deputies. York subsequently rammed a PCSO unit, on the driver’s side, disabling both units, but struck another PCSO unit before the stolen vehicle came to rest.

York was taken into custody and transported to UAMS for injuries suffered as a result of the crash.

Three deputies were injured during this incident; two from the initial confrontation, during the traffic stop and a third as a result of York ramming the PCSO unit.

All three deputies have been treated and released.

York was booked, without bond, into the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility and was charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Capital Murder X 2, Battery in the First Degree X 2, Battery in the Second Degree X 2, Theft of Property, Criminal Mischief and Resisting Arrest.

Further information will be released when it becomes available.
