Father accused of kidnapping infant daughter in Arkansas is arrested

The 2-month-old was found safe. The baby was dropped off at the mother's home by a third party. Danny Trent Barrows was arrested by the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Authorities in Arkansas say they've apprehended a man who they say kidnapped his infant child and fled after attacking the baby's mother.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said on Twitter Wednesday that they had apprehended 38-year-old Danny Trent Barrows.

On Tuesday, August 14, 2018, the U.S. Marshals Service led Western Arkansas Fugitive Task Force, began working with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas State Police, Arkansas Probation and Parole, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in an attempt to locate and arrest Danny Trent Barrows. Based upon joint investigation endeavors, Barrows was to turn himself into US Marshals and Washington County Deputies on Wednesday morning.

Officials say Barrows stabbed the child's mother in the leg and struck her with his fists Monday night, then took the 2-month-old baby and fled the town of Winslow in a sedan. Later, police said Barrows was last seen driving a pickup truck near Mountainburg.

An Amber Alert was issued but was canceled Tuesday morning after the baby was returned safely to her mother.

When officers arrived on scene near West Fork, Barrows forced a companion out of the vehicle he had been brought to the meet location in and led US Marshals and Washington County Deputies on a pursuit. The weather conditions were very poor with heavy rain at the time.

Due to public safety factors and other information obtained in the case, the pursuit was discontinued, and a request was made to other agencies for assistance in locating Barrows. Numerous agencies responded including Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Mountainburg Police Department, Arkansas State Police, Arkansas Highway Police, and Arkansas Game and Fish Officers.

While officers were searching for Barrows in the area of Highway 71 and Highway 282, near Mountainburg, a 911 call came in reporting that a subject was attempting to jump from the I-49 Bridge located at mile marker 33 which was near the search area. Officers rushed to the scene and confirmed it was Barrows. Crawford County Deputies and Arkansas State Police Troopers arrived first and noticed Barrows hanging over the side of the bridge. The Deputies and Troopers struggled with Barrows as he attempted suicide but were able to pull him back up and save his life.

The US Marshals Service commends the efforts of all agencies involved especially the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police for their quick response in saving the life of the suspect. The Western Arkansas Fugitive Task Force is led by the US Marshals Service and consists of Deputy US Marshals, Benton County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Arkansas State Police Troopers, Greenwood Police Department Officers, and Springdale Police Department Officers. The Western Arkansas Fugitive Task Force seeks out and arrests both federal and state fugitives wanted for violent offenses.
